IN ONE WEEK, SMC PREVENTS 1,220,000 FUTURE FERAL KITTENS FROM BEING BORN!
Because cats breed an alarming rate, a single pregnant cat and her offspring (and their offspring - and their offspring....) will grow into 50 cats in just two years. That's from ONE SINGLE CAT! By the time five years passes, that same cat and her offspring will have exponentially grown to a staggering 20,000 cats.
Most of these kittens will only live long enough to breed for a cycle or two, then likely die of starvation or disease because there are simply not enough resources for everyone. They likely would have perished alone and out of sight of our island's "Aloha" spirit. Approximately 75% of kittens die or disappear by six months of age. Starvation, dehydration, disease, and trauma are the most common causes of kitten death.
Fortunately, in November, 2022, the Maui Humane Society, with a generous grant from Greater Good, invited us to participate in an island-wide, short-term spay and neuter clinic. We were thrilled at the opportunity to participate and in just 4 short days, our small group of tireless and committed volunteers were able to humanely catch and bring in 121 cats to be fixed.
121 CATS! And if we multiply that over 5 years of mating, SAVE MAUI CATS HAS HELPED KEEP 1,220,000 FUTURE FERAL KITTENS FROM BEING BORN IN MAUI - just from our work in this one week alone.
Since our inception in 2007, we have participated in over 2,500 cats being spayed and neutered. Without our team's tireless dedication, the number of unwanted kittens born and left to die would have amounted to the HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS! Had those cats not been fixed, it's heartbreaking to imagine what a cruel and desperate fate those doomed kittens would have faced.
Save Maui Cats is made up of a tiny group of volunteers who rely solely on donations to continue our lifesaving work. We do not have a brick and mortar facility and are dependent upon our dedicated fosters and volunteers to carry out our mission. We are happy to step up and honored to be part of a humane solution.
From starvation to trauma, most of the cats we help have had a lifetime of struggle. Mr. Man is clearly no exception. He's as sweet and loving as they come. He'll get neutered and treated for his eye infection
Our volunteer and hero Grant humanely traps, quickly covers, and carefully labels each cage. This helps reduce kitty's stress and ensures that there are no mix ups getting fixed cats back to their colonies
A heart-felt thank you for everybody's hard work. You are the reason that great things happen. A huge thanks to Rumi, Julia, & Nancy for your compassion and selfless dedication.
THANK YOU HEROES!
Your life is about to get a whole lot better!
Every cat deserves a chance at life. Even if they're too scared to come out of hiding.

10-29-21 GREAT NEWS! Save Maui Cats helped send 10 desperate kittens to forever homes on the mainland. This is our program’s maiden voyage and we’re hoping to send many more in the future.
Resources for cats on Maui are limited and most struggle to survive but thanks to Captain Adam Townley-Wren, Good Cat Network president Amber Star Naramore, Aloha Air Cargo, and a group of dedicated volunteers, these lucky kittens are on their way to a better life. Thank you, this couldn’t have happened without you.
GET INVOLVED! Donations and fosters are needed more than ever so that we may keep up with this incredible program and continue to help save the cats and kittens of Maui.
Thank you
