It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our dear friend Rabbi Larry Winer. Larry was an incredible man who selflessly helped the Maui community and animals everywhere. From the strongest and bravest among us to the tiniest, weakest kitten, Larry believed that EVERYONE deserved to be cared about.
And loved.
Larry approached life with kindness, compassion, and a wonderful sense of humor. He treated everybody as a friend, and even in death, reminds us to do the same. How will we approach the next few moments? And the moments after that? Despite life’s hurries and frustrations, will we remember to be kind? Can we put aside our judgement and indifference? Will we remember not to take love for granted?
With his magnanimous smile and huge heart, Larry was a rare and unique soul who will be sorely missed. His life was a gift to this earth and we thank him for making it better for every single one of us.
Larry wasn’t perfect. But his message certainly was.
Please be kind.

Thank you.

A beautiful, traditional service was held at Valley Isle Memorial Cemetery on April 13th which included singing and prayer while we walked behind the hearse. It is the Jewish custom that when saying goodbye to a loved one, to walk and stop several times while singing and praying, to commemorate the hardest part of letting go. It’s natural to want to hold on but in time we ultimately said our goodbyes to Rabbi Winer.
Larry and JoAnne are very special people and we are grateful to those who continue to show support for JoAnne during this difficult transition.
